LAFOLLETTE, TN  (WLAF) – Last Friday night, a suspicious vehicle call ended with an arrest.

Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy Cody Douglas answered a call at approximately 11 pm about a suspicious vehicle at Wildwood Circle east of La Follette.

When Douglas arrived, he found a red Ford Focus with three people inside. Douglas made contact with Kaitlyn Marie McDaniels. She allegedly told Douglas that she had driven here and was tired.  She allegedly said that she had pulled over to park and sleep, because she couldn’t afford a motel. Douglas noticed that she appeared to be very nervous as well as the other two people in the car who were identified as a Nathan Ling and a juvenile who was rummaging through the vehicle, according to the report from the Sheriff’s Department.

A check of the vehicle’s Michigan tag revealed that the car was stolen. McDaniels agreed to speak with Douglas and openly mentioned taking the vehicle from her grandparents. She continued that they should not have reported the vehicle stolen, saying she had spoken with them not long ago begging them to not report it stolen.

Douglas performed a routine record check on the pair which showed felony charges from Michigan with full extradition on one of the occupants, Ling. During this time, Deputy John Minor came to assist Douglas and attempted to arrest Ling, but he fled on foot from Minor and refused to stop. Minor and Douglas found Ling passed out underneath a truck next to a home. It appeared that Ling fell and hit the side of his head on something when he attempted to run away. Minor was able to handcuff Ling at this point, but McDaniels attempted to interfere with deputies and was detained by a third deputy after a scuffle. EMS arrived and attempted to give aid to Ling who woke up and became extremely combative kicking and trying to bite deputies and EMS, according to the report. During the events, the juvenile stayed by the car.

McDaniels, 18, 79 Maple Drive, Ann Harbor, MI, is charged with theft of property over $10,000, resist stop frisk halt search and disorderly conduct.

Ling, 18, 36 Ponderosa Trail, Belleville, MI, is charged with assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and evading arrest.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 06/07/2019-6AM)
