On April 10 a call of a possible hostage situation on Hatmaker Hollow Lane came into the E-911 Dispatch Center.

Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy Dakota Williams went to the home where it was alleged that David Dewayne Delk had stolen the victim’s medication and was holding her hostage.

When Williams arrived, he found the victim walking around outside on the front porch of the home. He asked the victim where Delk was, and she said he had taken off into the woods.

While speaking with the victim, she allegedly said  she and Delk had been arguing, when he grabbed her by the wrist. During this time, he allegedly cursed her and threatened to kill her and her whole family. According to the report, she was crying, and her wrist had red marks.

Williams went to look for Delk and found him sitting on top of a steep hill talking to himself. He requested that Delk come down and speak with him. When Delk was walking toward him he noticed him carrying two blue pill bottles and a can of Mountain Dew. Williams attempted to talk with Delk, but he was uncooperative, according to the report.

Williams spoke with two witnesses who allegedly said they saw Delk holding the victim’s wrist attempting to pull her away from the home. One of the witnesses came over and grabbed the victim by the hand and led her away from Delk. At this point the witness said Delk went into the woods. According to the report, the second witness gave the same account of the incident.
