State Representative Dennis Powers (R-Jacksboro in top photo at podium) has successfully guided House Bill 948 through the Tennessee House of Representatives. The measure — which is part of the Governor’s legislative package this year — strengthens protections for Tennessee consumers by streamlining the process for filing complaints.
“We must ensure Tennessee businesses are operating in a fair and equitable manner so they are not undermining our consumers,” said  Powers. “I am pleased to have carried this bill because it supports Tennessee’s business-friendly climate and guarantees the interests of our consumers are protected.”
Previously, all consumer complaints were filed with the Department of Commerce & Insurance before being referred to the Attorney General’s office. Under this initiative, consumers will be able to directly contact the Attorney General’s Office to file a complaint.
“Chairman Powers is a champion for Tennessee consumers, and he did a great job guiding this legislation through the House,” said House Majority Leader William Lamberth (R-Portland). “I am grateful to him for all of his hard work, and I know this initiative will greatly benefit the citizens of Tennessee.”
“I appreciate Chairman Powers for his tireless efforts fighting for our consumers,” said Assistant Majority Leader Ron Gant (R-Rossville). “This legislation streamlines complaint reporting, and I am grateful to Chairman Powers for his hard work on this important issue.”
