A woman’s call for assistance has an unusual ending.

Amy Ann Evans vehicle ran off Westbourne Road into the ditch last Thursday, and she called for help. Deputy Corey Laxton went to see how he could assist her. When he arrived, he asked if she wanted him to call a tow truck and she said “yes.”  While the pair was waiting for the tow truck to arrive, Laxton asked the woman what her name was and where was she from, according to the report. Laxton checked to see if the woman had any outstanding warrants and discovered four active warrants out of Claiborne County.

At this point, Laxton told her that she had warrants and she allegedly asked if he could just let her go and not take her to jail. Laxton told the woman no and placed her under arrest. While they were standing beside the patrol car talking, Evans started running away. Laxton chased the woman and told her to get on the ground and to stop running. Laxton was able to catch the woman, place her on the ground and put handcuffs on her. At this point, Evans was placed into the patrol car, she was asked if she had anything illegal on her and she said allegedly said no.

When Evans arrived at the jail and was being searched, a green leafy substance, believed to be marijuana, wrapped up in rolling paper was discovered in her jacket pocket.
