A Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched Friday night to Jellico Towers on a domestic assault that happened in the county.

Deputy John Minor made contact with the female victim who said she had allegedly been to a home on Shady Pine Lane at Newcomb to talk to Jared Lay.  She told Minor that Lay started accusing her of cheating and threatened to kill her if she didn’t tell him who she was cheating with.  The victim, according to the report, stated Lay told her he would kill her and cut her into pieces.

She relayed to the deputy that Lay got up from the couch, went to the kitchen, grabbed a butcher knife and allegedly attempted to stab her.  The victim went on to say she feared for her life, ran from the house, jumped into a car with another man and told him to get out of there.  The victim added Lay allegedly chased her until she made it into the car, and as they drove off, he threw the knife into the driveway, the report said.

Deputy Minor located Lay at the Shady Pine Lane home he listed as his address and arrested him.

It was noted in the report that while on the way to the jail, Lay said, “I’m going to kill that bitch for real.”

This was the 20-year old Lay’s 10th booking.  He was charged with aggravated assault by domestic violence.

Lay appeared in court on Tuesday and received a new court date, Tuesday, January 22, 1 pm.  He remains housed in the county jail this morning on a $50,000 bond.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 01/23/2019-6AM)
