In an event that lasted two evenings, Christmas cheer was spread to nearly 400 Campbell County children thanks to Shop with a Cop.

The annual shopping extravaganza celebrated its 21st year this month. Shop with a Cop provides Christmas presents to elementary school children. Along with shopping, the children are treated to dinner, a visit with Santa Claus and their own area hero to help them shop.

“It’s a humbling experience,” said Jacksboro Police Chief Danny Chapman.

Chapman along his best friend and former co-worker, Mike Starrett, were the leaders of the program until Starrett’s death. In his absence, Pam Wright stepped up to help Chapman continue the cause.

“It takes an army to do this every year,” Chapman said. On Friday night, that army consisted of officers from every department in the county, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, first responders and other volunteers.

“The whole community, the whole county makes this possible,” Chapman said. In all over 100 sponsors pitched in to provide Christmas for area children this year. (WLAF  NEWS PUBLISHED – 12/24/2018-6AM)
