The Town of Caryville will be getting a new fire truck. Mayor Robert Stooksbury told the board on Monday night, they could move forward with the purchase of the fire truck. Stooksbury continued that according to the East Tennessee Development District, the town will not have to bid the purchase out. A grant for $279,852 has been received for the truck. The town will have to pay the remaining balance from the fire protection fund. Stooksbury told the board it will take around 395 days for the truck to be built and cost $304,208.

Aldermen Beth Lawson updated the board on the project at the old Caryville School, where the playground was previously located. The land belongs to TVA, who has agreed to let the town lease the property for a park. Lawson said she and Aldermen Vickie Heatherly had met with the Design Center who agreed to assist with the planning process. Lawson said they will seek out grants to help pay the cost of improvements.

The Beer Board met after the regular meeting to approve permits for the upcoming year. Permits were renewed for Takumi, El Rey’s, Pilot Travel Center, TA Truck Stop, Rocky Top Market, Dollar General and Pioneer Shell. Quick Stop Market was approved to sell and consume beer on property.
