The last time the Campbell County Lady Cougars defeated Oak Ridge on John Brown Court was 2014.  That was Brad Honeycutt’s first season at the helm of the girls basketball program.

The 5th year head coach said “it was time” after his Lady Cougars lost a 13-point lead holding on at the end to win the nail biter 49 to 48.  CCHS played perhaps its two biggest challengers for the district crown in Powell and Oak Ridge last week on its home hardwood and won both.  “It was great to pick up a key early season district win Friday night,” said Honeycutt.  Campbell is 2 & 0 in the district and is in first place.

The Lady Cougars take a 5 & 0 mark into a four-game run squeezed into a five-day span.  Honeycutt calls it a different type of challenge every night this week and is treating it like a tournament week; similar to a post season run.  He said, “If anybody can handle it, our kids can.  Players play because they love the games, and this is a week fit for a true basketball gamer.”

Campbell hosts Carter Monday night with the other three games this week being played away.  Tuesday at Central in Knoxville then Thursday outside Williamsburg with Whitley County and then concluding on Friday at Anderson County.  Central and Anderson are district games.

Oak Ridge held off the Cougars Friday night 81 to 67.  CCHS looks for its first win of the season this week.
