Campbell County hosts Powell at John Brown Gym this evening to open the 2018-2019 District 3-AAA basketball round-robin schedule.

The Lady Cougars have not seen game action in more than a week and enter tonight’s meeting with a 3 & 0 mark.  Coach Brad Honeycutt and his Lady Cougars will have their hands full with a new-look Powell girls team that features two college-bound transfers from Carter High; Bailey Trumm and Reagan Trumm.  The sisters, Bailey, a junior, and Reagan, a freshman, have been courted by Appalachian State.  Bailey has committed to the Mountaineers while Reagan has been offered, according to Honeycutt.

Honeycutt calls Bailey Trumm possibly the best high school shooter in the state.  He notes that his Lady Cougars must take away Trumm’s three-point shot looks.  The coach said, “If we let either Trumm get going, it will be a long night.”

Coach Darrell Cox’s Cougars are coming off impressive performances over the holiday weekend despite close losses where they held leads in each game.   Though the Cougars are 0 & 5, Cox, said, “The game against Powell is our first district game of the season, and we are excited about it.  It also ends a big road trip for us and brings us back home to John RW Brown gymnasium.”  He adds that we are looking forward to playing back in front of our home crowd.  The Cougars have worked extremely hard this year, and the first-year head CCHS Coach says, ” Now it’s time to put it all together, because Powell is a really good team, and I believe the boys are up to the challenge.  Go Cougars!!”

The JV game tips off at 4:30 pm followed by the Lady Cougars and Powell at 6 pm with the Cougars and Panthers playing at 7:30 pm.  Josh Parker has the call over the WLAF – B & M Tires Sports Network; AM 1450 and FM 100.9 on radio with the live telecast on 1450wlaf.com.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 11/27/2018-6AM-PHOTO COURTESY OF WLAF’S CHARLIE HUTSON)
