Hardin Valley Acadamy used an 11 – 0 run in the third quarter to break a 32 – 32 halftime deadlock en route to a 60 – 53 win over the Campbell Cougars Saturday afternoon at HVA.   The Cougars trailed 13 – 12 after the first quarter and then outscored the Hawks 20 – 19 in the second quarter to knot the game at 32 at intermission.  But it was HVA’s 16 – 7 third quarter that proved to be the difference maker as it took a 48 – 39 lead into the fourth quarter.  Campbell’s 14 – 12 edge in the last frame was not enough as HVA held on for the win.

Campbell’s largest lead came at 21 – 17 in the second quarter while HVA was up by 13 at 48 – 35 at the end of that 11 – 0 run late in the third.

Cougar Coach Darrell Cox told Josh Parker on the TCAT Postgame Report on WLAF’s B & M Tires Sports Network, “This team has played hard for five games, and they don’t have a win yet, but you know it’s coming.  You can see it.” Three days ago,  Cox changed his team’s defense to shore up its rebounding deficiencies, and you could see the difference in Friday and Saturday’s games.  The switch was from a 3 – 2 to a 2 – 3 zone.

“I don’t know what else you want out of ’em (the Cougars) as far as effort goes.  They’re giving me just about all they have,” Cox added.

Jake Lane’s 10 points, all in the first half, carried the Cougars as Carter Wells chipped in nine followed by eight from Bryce Duncan and seven points by Lawson Shoun.  Nate Walden and Drew Jordan each tallied six-points.  Landon Addington added four as Spencer Boshears  put up three points.
