Mr. Charles Edward Fugate, native of LaFollette, TN, lived in West Knoxville for 35 years.  Charles passed away November 19, 2018 after a lengthy illness. He was 83 years old. Charles was the loving and devoted husband of Nancy Castleberry Fugate. The love of his life, they were married for 62 years. Charles was a graduate of the University of Tennessee and worked for many years as an Industrial Engineer for the Tennessee Valley Authority, and then Bechtel Corporation. Prior to that time, he was a contractor and builder in LaFollette. Charles was a longtime member and formerly served as deacon at LaFollette First Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, as well as a member of the Lion’s Club.

Charles will be remembered for his exceptional generosity and kindness, without expecting much in return. He had a love and devotion for his family that was evident. He loved his dogs–Molly and Charlie, was an avid sports fan, worked a mean crossword puzzle, loved being outdoors in his yard, was eager to help others with projects, loved laughter and wittiness, and he loved telling the story of his courtship with Nancy, as well as other stories from earlier in his life. He is mourned and will be greatly missed by Nancy, Rebecca, and Marty, as well as many others, and will forever be in our hearts.

Charles was preceded in death by his infant son, Kenneth Scott Fugate, as well as his parents, Wade and Mae Walker Fugate. Charles is survived by Nancy Castleberry Fugate, his wife of 62 years. He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Fugate of Black Mountain, NC; son, Marty Fugate (Missy) of Lenoir City, TN; granddaughter, Mandi Fugate of Lenoir City, TN. Survivors also include his brothers, Robert “Bob” Fugate (Margie) of Edmond, OK, and Clyde Fugate (Amye) of Jackson, TN. Other special family and friends include: Sister-in-law, Judy Dossett (Jeff) of Austin, TX; sister-in-law, Lorenda Castleberry of Jacksboro, and supportive family friend, Remsen Behrer, Jr of Black Mountain, NC.
