“Oh, I guess she was three. Maybe four. When she got her first basketball,” said Anna Boshears aka Skylar Boshears’ “Nan.”   It was quite an emotional Wednesday morning for the proud grandmother as she stood on a walker in the Commons of Campbell County High School while Skylar signed college scholarship papers with Furman University.

Nan is recovering from the knee replacement surgery she had on Monday. The surgery forced her to bypass Tuesday night’s season opener, but she was not going to miss Skylar’s official signing to play college basketball.  Missing the win over Oneida was only the second game, AAU games included, that Nan has missed over Skylar’s years of playing.  She was quick to say that she did watch the game at home over the WLAF – B & M Tires Sports Network.

Nan smiled as she described Skylar’s basketball mind set as “determined,” adding that “I knew she would be successful.” She nearly cried when she said, “Skylar is just special to everybody.”

Skylar was courted by about 50 colleges. Aside from Furman, ETSU, Belmont, Radford, Campbell and Mercer came calling.

In the end, she chose the purple path to Greenville, South Carolina. And that path to Wednesday morning’s signing began about 15-years ago on a basketball goal in the backyard of the Boshear’s Sugar Hollow home.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 11/15/2018-6AM)
