At Tuesday night’s meeting of the Caryville Board of Mayor and Aldermen, Vickie Heatherly, Beth Lawson and Eric Smith were sworn into office.

Aldermen Vickie Heatherly and Beth Lawson have been working on a joint project to lease the old Caryville school playground. Heatherly began working on the project in 2011, and then Lawson took the project over when Heatherly left office. Heatherly told the board that TVA agreed to let the school board sub-lease the property to the town. The town must carry liability insurance on the property. Heatherly said that since the property is below the flood plane it can only be used for parks and recreation purposes.

The town has the opportunity to participate in a TML Pool Matching Conservation Grant for $1,000 and can be used to buy security cameras. Resolution 2018-08 allowing the town to participate in the grant was passed.

Aldermen Beth Lawson discussed the Christmas Light Contest and requested someone take over the judging or assist her with the judging. Mayor Bobby Stooksbury suggested they recruit a third party to do the judging for them. Lawson said that anyone wishing to participate in the contest needs to call the town hall to enter the contest. Prize amounts will remain the same as in year’s past, $300 for first place, $200 for second place and $100 for first place. Winners will be announced at January’s board meeting.
