Coach Brad Honeycutt’s Lady Cougars used a 13 to 2 start and a 19 to 5 third quarter on their way to win Number One in the home and season opener Tuesday night at Brown Gym.  Oneida fell to Campbell 62 to 41.

“Overall, I was very happy with the effort.  I think we’re playing together though we had been a little out of sync in the preseason, but I think a lot of it came together tonight,” said Honeycutt.  He goes on to say that there’s still a lot for us to work on with half-court defense needing improvement.  The fifth year head coach was pleased with his team’s running game despite some turnovers.  Honeycutt said, “It was the best I’ve seen us push the ball up the floor in transition.”

Skylar Boshears led the way with 22-points followed by Haley Comer’s 15, 13 in the first half, as Emily Ellison tallied 10.  Madison Brady score eight with Blair Medley’s three followed by two from Megan Asher and one-point each from Macey Monday and Raley Snodgrass.

Campbell has a full day of basketball on Saturday with two games at William Blount High School just outside Maryville.  At 12:30 pm, CCHS plays the Walker Valley Mustangs from Cleveland followed by a 6:30 pm match-up with William Bount’s Lady Governors.  The games are TV and website broadcasts only over the WLAF – B & M Tires Sports Network.  That’s over WLAF-TV 12 and 1450wlaf.com.

A footnote.  Skylar Boshears will officially sign to play basketball with Furman University this morning.  That’ll be in the Commons at CCHS at 9:30 am. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 11/14/2018-6AM)
