Last month, the Town of Jacksboro hired a new part time police officer. The board agreed unanimously to hire Brandon Gross at $10 per hour with a 60-day probationary period. Thursday night, the board hired Zachary Marcum to replace Gross, who resigned from the position.

Also, at the September meeting, Alderman Shayne Green requested the board compensate Fire Chief Jason Shetterly, since he is a department head and does not have a take home vehicle. Green pointed out that the other department heads have a take home vehicle. After a heated exchange between Green and Mayor June Forstner, it was agreed that Shetterly would be compensated $20 per week for the use of his personal vehicle. On Thursday night, Forstner updated the board that she had requested an opinion from MTAS on the raise. Alderman J.C. Miller said, “Raises should be done once a year.”  He then made a motion to rescind the raise for Shetterly.  The motion passed.

The fireworks ordinance will soon have some changes. The cost of a permit to sell fireworks will be raised from $250 to $750.  The $500 clean-up fee in the original ordinance will be removed.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 10/10/2018-6AM)
