The Town of Jacksboro will soon have a new part time police officer. The board agreed unanimously to hire Brandon Gross at $10 per hour with a 60-day probationary period.   Aldermen Shayne Green requested the board give office employee Emily Hicks who has worked four years for the town a 75-cent per hour raise. All members agreed with this raise. Green then requested the board compensate Fire Chief Jason Shetterly, since he is a department head and does not have a take home vehicle. Green pointed out that the other department heads have a take home vehicle. After a heated exchange between Green and Mayor June Forstner, it was agreed that Shetterly would be compensated $20 per week for the use of his personal vehicle.

The police department will soon be getting replacement handguns. The department has six handguns that are out of date and need to be replaced, according to Forstner. The expired guns can be traded in for $168 each.

A new lawnmower will be bought from Quality Lawn for $429 for the fire department. The lawnmower is utilized to mow around city hall and areas that the big tractor cannot reach. Forstner requested the board approve the purchase of hand-outs for Fire Prevention Week. The handouts are used by Dewey Madison at his school presentations.

Bids for four new tires for the street department pickup truck were received. The board received two bids and accepted the lowest bid of $540. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 09/07/2018-6AM)
