The world stood still for a few moments when I ran across Mickey Spencer on Wednesday afternoon.  How could I not see this 13-year old in his bright red shirt sitting atop a guard rail with his fishing line dangling in the waters of Davis Creek below.  Fishing is Spencer’s passion.  Only the coldest  and rainiest days keep him from “draggin’ the line.”  He tells WLAF that in the summer he fishes about four hours a day; two in the morning and a couple more in the afternoon.  Even after he returns to Wynn School, 7th grade coming up, he’ll be back at the bridge in the afternoons.

He mostly uses bread for bait.  Sometimes worms.  But it doesn’t matter what he catches, he throws it back in.  He loves just seeing what the next pretty fish looks like.

Thanks for the time, Mick, as you took a break for me from draggin’ the line.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 07/12/2018-6AM)
