A man was alleged to be dragging a female behind a red Toyota extended cab pick-up on Saturday night. Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeff Allen responded to the call at the Stinking Creek exit.  When Allen found the vehicle, it was getting on I-75 north, after approximately a mile and a half Allen was able to get the vehicle to stop.

Allen found a female sitting in the passenger seat with an 11-month old baby in her lap. The female alleged that the man who was later identified as Cliff Justin Ayers had strangled and beat her at the exit. She then said that Ayers had thrown the car seat in the bed of the truck and forced her to hold the baby in her lap while he attempted to get away from law enforcement, according to a report from the Campbell County Sheriff’s Department.

The female continued saying that they had ran out of gas and called a friend to come help. When Ayers got back into the vehicle he was acting strange and aggressive toward her, at this point the female alleges that he grabbed her from behind to the point she almost passed out. He then dragged her across the pavement and told her that he was going to kill her when she said she was going to call the police. The female had a cut on the right side of her forehead.  Her left elbow was bleeding, and she had scratches on her lower back and marks around her neck.

Ayers, 35, 2149 Pine Mountain Road, La Follette is charged with aggravated assault by domestic violence, child restraint law, felony evading arrest and reckless endangerment. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 06/29/2018-6AM)
