Search teams quickly locate him

“Call off the chopper.”  Those were good words to hear just before 6 pm on Sunday afternoon.  That call signaled the safe ending to a missing person search in east La Follette.

La Follette Chief of Police Bill Roehl explains to WLAF News that a man in his mid-70s, suffering from dementia, wandered away from the La Follette Nursing Home not long after 3:30 pm Sunday afternoon.

Searchers from La Follette Police, a blood hound team that works with LPD, deputies with the Campbell County Sheriff’s Department, members of the La Follette Rescue Squad, Campbell County Emergency Management, and the Knox County Sheriff’s Department made quick work in their efforts.

Roehl says the man was found by the search dog in a wooded area near the La Follette Medical Center.  He notes that the man suffered a leg injury during the time he was missing.(WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 05/07/2018-6AM)
